Help, Please!

Post by MommaG » Sat Feb 04, 2017 3:24 pm

My FIL has been diagnosed with a type of cancer that will make it difficult for him to swallow. I am looking for soup recipes that can be canned. I normally do hot water bath canning but from what I have read I will need to get a pressure canner for soups. Any guidance and/or adaptable recipes would be greatly appreciated.

I have never done pressure cooker canning. I am curious to see if anyone here has any advice to offer up.

My Mom used to can wild meat in gravy and can her pasta sauce. She did not use pressure canner, she would place the filled jars in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit and cook until the filling in jars was bubbling for about an hour then take them out and wait for the lids to pop, then in the cold cellar they went. We never got sick so I guess she was doing something right.

Darn, I thought for sure Queenbea would have my answer. Hopefully, someone will chime in on pressure canning.

I wish I could help too; I don't do any canning.
I used to make a creamed chicken soup for my mom when she had JAW surgery. But, I just froze it in small mason jars; then, she just reheated.
I did the same for a beef soup, potato, leek soup ... all creamed and pureed.

I will be glad to share, just let me know. Some were broth based, some cream based; but, all had vegetables and meat in them - so very nutritious

Most if not all pressure caners come with recipes and advice. Maybe this link will help:
