Freezing whipped flavored butters?

Post by MommyNeedsCoffee » Sat Jan 07, 2017 1:27 pm

Hi! I've been thinking of making up a batch of whipped honey butter and freezing it in individual portions to perk up biscuits on weekend mornings. Any suggestions?

I was thinking of portioning it out with a cake decorating tip onto a baking sheet, freezing, then storing in the freezer in a ziplock. Does anyone foresee a problem? Will condensation while it's thawing be an issue? (Also, technically, it will be whipped honey soy margarine, due to milk allergies, if that makes a difference.)

Thanks very much!

It will freeze well in ice cube containers, freeze until solid then pop them in freezer bags

No problem it will freeze fine then only thing that does not freeze solid is is alcohol, or anything with alcohol in it, the ice cube tray is a great idea ;)

Thanks for the feedback! I was too lazy to cutify it with decorator tips, just spooned it out on non-stick aluminum foil and into the freezer. Done!

It's kind of funny, but I've probably been intending to do this for about ten years. Nothing like publicly stating a goal. It took me all of five minutes, if that.

I make flavored butters all the time. I have 4-5 in my freezer right now.

I put mine on a parchment paper sheet and roll up into a log. Then, I roll in a sheet of plastic wrap and put in a freezer bag.
When I need some, I just remove from the bag and plastic wrap and cut what I need. Rewrap in the plastic wrap and put in the ziploc bag.

The double wrap keeps any freezer burn and keeps it safe. You can also use waxed paper too. I just cut in small rounds for what I need.

The ice cubes work great; but, make sure to double wrap or double bag; they will get freezer burn.
Otherwise, they work great.

I use compound butters probably 2-3x/wk. So, I love them.

Oh, I like the sound of all this, Kchurchill5! I was actually looking at this recipe when I noticed your post:

Parsley Garlic Butter: http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/parsle ... utter-6661

This seems like such a simple way to add a lot of flavor to a dish, and also a quick way to save a handful of leftover herbs for later. And here I was just looking for a way to fancy up biscuits! This is great.
