April 2012 Use it or Lose it Challenge! Join us!

Post by HeatherFeather » Sun Apr 01, 2012 11:40 am

It is a new month, which means another Use it or Lose it money saving event has begun! You may join in at any time during the month and complete as much or as little of the challenge as you are up to - it is very flexible! The whole point is to save you money on stuff already hanging out in your kitchen.

This month's topic will be your FREEZER and FRIDGE and FRUIT BOWL stash! Go through all of your items already in your home that are kept chilled or frozen (or fresh produce you keep at room temperature) and make a list of 10 items you'd like to try to make use of this month. Anything will count so long as it is edible - even if you turn it into something that is not edible.

Suggested items might be:
 frozen fruits and veggies
 frozen raw meats
 frozen leftover ingredients
 frozen leftover meals
 mysterious foil wrapped meats that you keep avoiding to make
 packaged/prepared meal items stashed away
 fresh produce that keeps getting forgotten in your fridge bins or fruit bowl
 half opened bottles of condiments, sauces, etc stuffed in your fridge door
 thawed meats or fresh meats hanging out in your fridge
 dairy items
 eggs you keep forgetting to use up before they spoil
 opened jams & jellies
etc.

Post your list of 10 items here, and then come back to report on how you used the items on your list as you use each one. Try to use each item at least once during the month. At the end of the month, come back and post about on how well you did. Also, make suggestions and/or share recipes that might help others use up the items on their lists.

For the purposes of this challenge, donating items, disposing of items, or turning the items into crafts/cleaning recipes/ and/or pet foods does count.
