If you have any comments or questions please post them in the regular Photo Forum and we will get back to you ASP

Posting Photos in Forum Threads

Choosing a Photo Hosting Site:
To post pictures into a thread you must upload it to a website that allows you to link to it. You can do this by either by getting a free hosting site or an account you pay for. For example, my photos are hosted and linked from my caymandesigns.com domain.

Free sites are great but some only allow you to upload a certain number of pictures and only allow you a certain amount of bandwidth per day, week or month. Think of bandwidth as fuel. The more your picture(s) is viewed the more bandwidth your account uses. When your bandwidth is used up for the day/week/month your picture turns into the little box with a red X in it until the next day/week/month when your bandwidth allotment starts over again. If you plan on posting a lot of photos, you can always use several free accounts so you have sufficient bandwidth.

Here is a list of some of the free hosting sites I'm familiar with. Each one has a different limit as to the number of photos you can upload, how much bandwidth you are allotted, the size of your photos etc. for free. So, be sure to read carefully what they have to offer to decide which one(s) is right for you! Several sites also offer editing features as well as photo storage.

(Flickr.com is a great photo hosting site, but it won’t allow you to share your photos in a forum setting. From their site: The direct link to a photo file is no longer shown on the page. Per the Flickr Community Guidelines "pages on other websites that display content hosted on flickr.com must provide a link from each photo or video back to its page on Flickr." Linking directly to the photo file doesn't do this. )

To Upload a Photo to the Photo Site:
Most of the sites above work the same way. You log in and go to your photos or album and then:
- Locate the link to "Upload A Picture" and click on it.
- Click on "Browse" and locate the picture on your computer.
- Double click on it and then click "Upload". Some sites allow you to upload more than one photo at a time.

To Post a Photo in a Thread:
(Tip: this is easier if you have two windows or tabs open. One featuring the photo you wish to post, and the other containing the thread you are posting to.)
- Each site will vary a bit, but basically you want to find the picture you wish to post in the thread and find its URL. (A photo URL will look like a regular URL but will end with a .jpg or similar photo file extension.)
- Some may have more than one type of URL link. If so, look for the one that says something like "to use with forums, boards, ebay", etc. If they show [ ], { }, or something else, choose the one with the [ ] brackets.
- Some will have a link to "Copy URL" with the picture, if so click on that. That copies it to your clipboard to use on in the thread. On other sites, you may have to Highlight and Copy the URL under the picture, once again saving it to your clipboard.
- Once you have the URL copied, go the thread you want to insert the picture in. (Choose "New Thread" in the forum or "Reply" or "Quote" in an existing thread.)
- If your URL already has HTML image tags [img ] [/img ] before and after it, just paste it into the thread where you want the image to appear.
- If it is just a plain image URL, click on the “Insert Image” button. (Second from left on the bottom row of buttons) It will insert the HTML tags with the cursor in the middle of them. Copy the photo’s URL between those tags. Be sure there are NO SPACES in between the brackets and URL. A space will break the link and it will not work. In other words, you photo link needs to look like this without the *’s in the image tags.

- Go to the next line and add any text you’d like to appear after your photo.
- Feel free to add as many photos as you’d like to each thread, but always hit the “enter” key at least once before adding the next photo’s URL.
- When you added all your images and text, choose the “Post” or “Preview” button. Remember! If you choose “Preview” you will need to click “Post” on the next page for the thread to actually post to the forum.

Additional information on photo size:
Your photos should be 500 X 500 pixels or less to post here in Zazz
