Re: Measurement help please
Hi Memack,
The amounts are as follows:
2.5 Quarts water = 2 1/2 quarts or litres
1.3 cups salt = 1 + 1/3 cups
.25 cup sage = 1/4 cup sage
.5 cups sugar = 1/2 cup sugar
.3 cup minced garlic = 1/3 cup
Thanks

Re: Nobody to cook for!!
Thanks for all the tips!
I totally forgot about the Meals On Wheels program. I'll definitely look that one up.
We've been toying with the "Dinner and a Movie" club idea too. I really like that one.

Nobody to cook for!!
I have no idea if this is an appropriate place to post this, so feel free to move this post to where it may belong. So, I have done very little cooking lately. Our daughter is now married and moved away and DW works shift work, so half the time, it's just me. I'm really itching to get back at it, bu...

Re: No Oven - Help!
I can't. The cookstove oven door is broken and I'm waiting for spring to fix it when we're not using the stove.Shadows1 wrote:Doesn't your woodstove have an oven? Use that.
I have made it in a dutch oven at camp but not on stove top, need to have that top heat as well.

No Oven - Help!
We are STILL renovating the kitchen. Seems to be never ending. I have no functional oven and I need to make a lasagna. Is it possible to do it in a Dutch Oven on the stove? Worst case scenario, I would have to do it in small batches in my toaster oven I guess. I also have an electric roaster. Could ...

Re: Wood fired cookstove
Oh man.... now you've got me thinking!
You know, it is something really special to have a soup/stew simmering all day on the wood cookstove. I just wish it didn't take this city boy so long to get to experience it, but now there's no going back.
Now, time to clean out that fridge! Thanks Dis!

Re: Wood fired cookstove
Well, after literally MONTHS of looking, I finally found the 'clean-out' door for the oven. It's a small door inside the clean out drawer for the fire box. Super hard to get at, but I found it and that's what matters. With the kitchen renos STILL ongoing and this nuttty cold weather, I've been cooki...

Re: Wood fired cookstove
I really like cooking with fire, but have a couple of questions: I use Ash wood. It burns hot and lights easily. But the firebox is small. (Compared to the wood stove) Do you fiddle with the dampers to control fire temperature or simply keep moving the pots around the cook surface closer and further...

Re: Wood fired cookstove
Axe the forum was intended to be for outdoor types of cooking, but I guess there is room for woodstove cookery. I will get this post stickey with the main topics here. No worries Shadows. If it doesn't fit, no problems! Just a bit of a steep learning curve over here for a city boy livin' in the cou...
