Oven Beef Stroganoff

"This is a nice version of stroganoff which cooks in the oven that my family loves. It's nice for company, because you can do most of the work ahead. This is probably the only recipe that I actually use MSG in, but it seems to make a nice difference."

Step 1

Brown meat quickly in oil, then transfer to 3-quart casserole. Add salt, pepper, and wine.

Step 2

In the drippings, saute onions until golden brown. Add mushrooms. Cook 5 minutes.

Step 3

Mix tomato paste, flour, consomme. Add to mixture.

Step 4

Add bay leaf, garlic and MSG. Mix well. Pour over meat.

Step 5

Cover and bake at 350F for 1 hour.

Step 6

Remove casserole from oven. Slowly stir in sour cream.

Step 7

Serve over noodles.

No special items needed.



I scaled back for 4 serves using some rump steak that I had in the freezer and cooked at a slightly lower temperature for the hour and also cut the onion chunky so the DH could pull it out of his serve otherwise made as per recipe and we managed to devour 3 serves between us with garlic bread and a salad.
