Step 1

Thaw lima beans in microwave for 3 minutes

Step 2

Melt butter in saucepan

Step 3

Stir in flour and blend well.

Step 4

Add milk, about 1/2 cup at a time, and blend with whisk.

Step 5

Cook over medium heat until thickened.

Step 6

Add in more milk if you like a thinner sauce

Step 7

Stir in sugar, salt and pepper

Step 8

Add in warmed lima beans

Seeing I'm a lima bean lover, I had to try these but wasn't sure what to expect. Not knowing the history of this dish, I bet it goes way back, as it has that added bonus of "comfort" that many-a-modern dish unfortunately has discarded. We loved these for it's, you guessed it, comfort and the sauce was just the right component as it hugged every single lima. These will be made again before this winter is over. Thank you, Dee, for sharing. Made it for FYC.
