"My beloved grandmother made the best bread and rolls. She'd often have a batch of these heavenly rolls waiting for us when we got off the school bus. As many times as I've made these rolls, they never live up to the ones my Gram made. I shape mine into crescent shape-- but you can shape them as you please. Cooking time includes the time to let the dough raise."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Dissolve yeast and 2 t. sugar in warm water and let rise - be sure to use a large enough container.
Step 2
Add remaining sugar, shortening and salt to scalded milk and stir to dissolve.*
Step 3
Add flour to milk mixture until it starts to fall off in sheets (usually after about 1 cup of flour). At this point, add the eggs and yeast. Mix well and begin adding the additional flour until dough reaches the desired consistency. Knead
Step 4
Lightly spray a bowl with cooking spray. Place dough in bowl, turn so the top has some of the spray on it, and let rise until doubled.
Step 5
Shape into rolls of your choice, and place on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet (I use parchment paper) and let rise again.
Step 6
Bake in a preheated 400 oven (not lower than the middle rack) for approximately 10 minutes.
Step 7
* At this point I place the milk mixture into my KitchenAid and finish it off in there.
