"This has been adapted from Silver Palate Cookbook and it is delicious! This thick dark chocolate fudgy sauce firms up on ice cream, and is great for making Hot Fudge Sundaes, and so much cheaper than buying it. You can make this ahead, and store in the refrigerator. When ready to use just reheat in the microwave in a glass bowl for 15-30 seconds to heat it up. Stir well and serve over your favorite ice cream, cake or whatever suits your fancy."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Melt chocolate and butter very slowly in a double boiler or in the microwave, stirring frequently until combined.

Step 2

In the meantime, heat water to boiling in the small, heavy saucepan.

Step 3

When the butter and chocolate melt, stir the mixture into the boiling water.

Step 4

Add sugar, corn syrup and salt, and mix until smooth.

Step 5

Turn the heat up and stir until mixture starts to boil, adjusting the heat so that sauce is just at the boiling point, stirring occasionally. Allow sauce to boil for 9 minutes.

Step 6

Remove from heat and cool for 15 minutes.

Step 7

Stir in the vanilla (or the liquor flavoring of your choice), and serve warm over your favorite ice cream or dessert.

I had all the ingredients in the cupboard so I made some to have with Vanilla icecream in waffle cones. I added the sauce over the icecream then sprinkled with walnuts. Heaven in a cone!

I made this to have over some vanilla cake and ice cream. Just what it needed to make a dreamy dessert. So yummy with nuts and a cherry on top!

I made some up to have with Hot Fudge Sundays and it was thick and even better than what you get in the stores. I will make this from now on to have on hand because we love our ice cream. I topped our sundays with Caramelized Nuts For Salads, Desserts and Ice Cream posted here. My daughter was in 7th heaven and I was too!

March 22nd - Made this recipe of Kimbers a number of times last summer for the youngsters, this time around made it using Kahlua. Makes an elegant topping, the Kahlua adds a lovely flavor. Come summer the Kahlua flavored for the adults, vanilla flavored for the young crowd! ORIGINAL REVIEW - Ice cream topped with this rich chocolate sauce makes for a dessert that garners compliments. Rich and chocolaty and so superior to the jarred toppings found on the grocer's shelves. Thank you for sharing this Silver Palate recipe Kimber - into my Dessert cookbook with this one.
