Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2

Combine the brown sugar, 1 teaspoon thyme, salt, cinnamon, and red pepper in a small bowl.

Step 3

Combine pecans and almonds on a jelly-roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until the nuts begin to brown.

Step 4

Combine the pecan mixture and butter in a medium bowl, stirring until the butter melts. Gently stir in pretzels, cereal, and syrup. Sprinkle the sugar mixture evenly over the pretzel mixture; toss gently to coat.

Step 5

Spread the pretzel mixture in a single layer on a jelly-roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, stirring once. Sprinkle with the remaining 1 teaspoon thyme. Cool completely.

I loved this mix, better than the Chex mix. Since I couldn’t find the unsalted pretzels, I used salted and cut amount of salt called for to 1/4 teaspoon. Just the right of balance of sweet, spicy and salty.
