"The copy in my recipe box is looking very faded, a good time to add this dip to my recipes seeing it at my fingertips come holidays, special occasions and gatherings. I have used thawed frozen cooked shrimp as well as canned crab with equally good results. Serve with an assortment of your favorite crackers."

  • If using frozen cooked shrimp, thaw completely before adding to the recipe.
  • For extra flavor, try using seafood cocktail sauce with a hint of spice.

  • Substitute cream cheese with Neufchatel cheese for a lower fat option. The benefit of this substitution is that it provides a slightly lighter and healthier option for those who are watching their fat intake.
  • Substitute shrimp with canned crab for a more cost-effective option. The benefit of this substitution is that it saves on costs while still providing the same great flavor and texture.

Vegetarian Variation Replace the shrimp with a can of black beans, drained and rinsed. Add 1/4 cup of diced red onion and 1/4 cup of diced red pepper. Omit the seafood cocktail sauce and use salsa instead.

Made for the Pick Me Tag Game & served last night as part of a starter course to dinner & games nite guests, I made 2 minor chgs. I used red bell pepper because that's what DH bought & I subbed leek & dry chives for the green onions rarely found here in Iceland. Comments were favorable - DH adored it & our 2 guests liked it a lot, but I felt the ingredient amts were a bit off target. IMO the 1 cup cocktail sauce & 2 cups cheese made those flavors dominate the shrimp flavor I wanted to be stronger. I will make this again, halve those ingredients & then adjust to taste pref by gradually adding more as I feel the need. I may even try using a bit of Old Bay Seas I favor using w/shrimp. Thx for sharing this recipe w/us. (A pic will post later today) :-)
