"Why buy it - when you can make it? This is my version, but as you know, every brand can taste a bit different. This is my favorite mix. I usually make 1 large jar at a time for myself; but, I also make it for a couple of friends too. The important thing is to use FRESH spices. I like to get mine from a reputable shop vs the grocery store, so you know you are getting fresh spices. We have a couple of Amish Stores which have fantastic spices, and we also have a Penzys. But, there are many online shops too if you don't have access to fresh spices. I store my mix in old spice jars for future use; and, make sure to always date and label your spice. It can be used on steak, chicken, pork, or vegetables ... Use your imagination."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

I have a second coffee grinder which I use for my spices; but you can also use a small food processor. You can also grind your own cumin and coriander too; but grinding the mustard seeds and peppercorns are very important. Just remember to use fresh spices.

Step 2

Spice ... Mix all the seasonings together and store in a well sealed jar or ziplock bag. If using an old spice jar (which is what I do), wash very well to remove any leftover scents/aroma from the previous herb. And ... remember to always store herbs in a cool dry place. Next to the stove on a rack IS NOT the best place. COOL and DRY is what you want. A pantry or spice rack away from heat is the best place to extend the shelf life.

Step 3

Steaks, burgers, pork chops, tenderloins, roast, chicken breasts, kabobs, or your favorite vegetables ... ENJOY!

I needed some Montreal spice for a recipe and hate the commercial stuff and don't like dill, which almost every other recipe has, so this was perfect. I cut the salt in half, though and it wasn't missed. Thanks for a keeper.

Tastes great on steak and chicken too! The mix of spices is great and a real asset to a plain piece of meat or poultry!
