Step by Step Method

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine cereal and peanuts. Set aside. Butter or spray a 9×13? baking dish well.

Step 2

In a large saucepan, combine sugar and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often. When the mixture comes to a full boil, remove from the heat. Stir in vanilla then peanut butter to melt.

Step 3

Pour mixture over cereal/peanuts and stir to coat very well. Pour into baking dish and spread evenly. Dampen your hands with water if you like then press down in pan.

Step 4

In the microwave melt chocolate with shortening, removing once to stir. When chocolate chips are smooth, glossy and ready to spread, use a fork or spatula to spread the chocolate over the cereal mixture. (I prefer using a fork to make swirl designs). Cool cut into bars or cut into shapes using a cookie cutter.

This summer friendly Oh Henry Bar is a real winner at our house. I'm making the desserts for tomorrow's family mini potluck. They have been sampled - been told I had better hide them. Already recipe requests! Can't wait to bring this one to my next make and take. I had wondered about the salted peanuts and almost bought non salted, then decided why play around with a winner - it's a yes to salted peanuts!Thank you for sharing.
