"This is the basic spaghetti sauce recipe from Trattoria Mezzaluna (a local Italian restaurant). It works with all kinds of pasta and they use it as the basis for their lasagna as well as a backdrop for some of their ravioli."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
In a sauce pan, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add onions and saute until translucent (5 minutes). Add garlic and stir well for 30 seconds.
Step 2
Add tomatoes with liquid and sugar to pot and bring to a boil. Simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly, stirring occasionally (20 minutes).
Step 3
Stir in the basil. Toss with the cooked pasta and serve immediately.
