"Another recipe I just found again after all these years. I remember this as being a dense, moist cake, tasting like fudge. Mom usually dusted it with powdered sugar, but you can serve it with frosting. My sister likes it with cream cheese frosting, but I will probably use my chocolate buttermilk glaze. Recipe makes a bundt cake or a 9x13 sheetcake or a 2 layer cake."

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour pan(s), preferably shiny pans - not dark.
Step 2
Cream shortening and sugar, beat in eggs, then sour cream and vanilla.
Step 3
Whisk together flour, soda and salt, mix into creamed mixture.
Step 4
In microwave, melt chocolate with hot water, then add to creamed mixture.
Step 5
Bake 25-30 minutes for 8" cake pans, 30-35 minutes for a 9x13 and 35-40 for a bundt cake. Test for doneness with a toothpick.
