"My mom pat made these all the time she grew up in California and this was what they said name came from This dish is said to take its name from the "hamburger size" ladle that legendary Los Angeles chili parlor proprietor Ptomaine Tommy used decades ago to spoon chili over the open-face burgers he served. alot of us kids from that region ate them"

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Make 4 patties, season patties, then cook until browned.

Step 2

Meanwhile heat chili until smokin hot.

Step 3

Toast buns until browned.

Step 4

Plating: put bottom of bun on plate put on one patty, then pour chili all over top with onions and cheese make sure cheese melts, top with top of bun.

Great lunch. I made a couple of changes. Used ground turkey and Hormel Turkey Chili, to lower the fat content.
