"Grossingers was a famous Hotel in the Catskills of Upstate NY. They were well known for Comedians ( mostly Jewish) and Lots and Lots of food. We stayed at this hotel when I was a child. This is good over rice, boiled potatoes or noodles."

Step by Step Method

Step 1

Dry the meat cubes very well.

Step 2

Heat the oil in a heavy dutch oven-brown the meat cubes, over medium-high heat, until well browned on all sides.

Step 3

Add the onions and continue browning for a few minutes- scrape the bits off the bottom.

Step 4

Add the salt, pepper and paprika.

Step 5

Cover - lower the heat to low/simmer - let cook for 30 minutes- stir occasionally.

Step 6

Add the bell peppers and tomato sauce- cover and cook for another 1 1/2 hours, or until the meat is very soft- stir occasionally.

Step 7

Taste the sauce close to the end- add salt and pepper ( or seasoned salt, like I do) to taste - let cook a bit more.
