Step by Step Method

Step 1

Take your 4 slices of bread and remove the crusts, then lightly butter before adding a layer of shredded cabbage to two of them.

Step 2

To make the actual tonkatsu, remove all of the fat from the pork loins, coat in a layer of flour, egg, then finally panko breadcrumbs before deep-frying in oil.

Step 3

Instead of cutting your tonkatsu into thin slices as you normally would, leave whole and place one on each sandwich.

Step 4

Top with a generous dollop of tonkatsu sauce, and slap your other two slices of bread on top before cutting diagonally to finish.

I LOVE Tonkatsu and this recipe didn't disappoint. It's super simple to make and always satisfying. I used the suggested sauce and also liked the cabbage addition. We used hamburger buns instead of bread. Great, easy dinner recipe!

KATO BABY

This was a terrific sandwich, even my picky husband enjoyed it. It had great textures; the crust on the pork was perfect, the meat was tender and juicy, the cabbage was a nice partner for the pork adding a nice crunch and while the sauce was amazing. Creating the perfect sandwich. Thank you so much for sharing a new favorite. Made for Culinary Quest - Japan.
