Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2

In a bowl mix together the sausage, 1/2 cup marinara, parmesan, 2 tablespoons parsley and 2 tablespoons basil. Using wet hands shape mixture into 8 meatballs (I got 10 meatballs).

Step 3

In a skillet bring 2 tablespoons parsley, 2 tablespoons basil and the remaining sauce and the meatballs to a boil; cover; reduce heat and simmer until meatballs are cooked through (20 minutes).

Step 4

Place the baguette bottoms on baking sheet. Spread each with 2 tablespoons sauce. Cut meatballs in half and overlap 4 halves on each baguette bottom; then sprinkle with mozzarella, dividing equally among the baguettes.

Step 5

Bake until cheese melts (5 minutes)and sprinkle with remaining cheese and parsley and cover with the baguette tops.

This is fantastic!! I used RAOs jarred marinara sauce and used shredded marble cheese instead of mozzarella which worked great. This is a keeper, thx for sharing your recipe here.

LOVE meatballs and these are great! I used ground Italian sausage and followed the recipe as directed, other than slicing the meatballs in half (I left them round at the request of my kids). Oh, and I added a shake or two of grated Parmesan cheese right before I served these. Made for Billboard Tag.

Easy to throw together, and makes a great tasting sandwich. I left off the basil, sprinkled in some fennell, and added peppers and onions. Awesome subs for lunch!

These were delicious subs, though I added extra basil and some onions and peppers to the sausage to really enhance the flavor of the meat.

I doubled the recipe so we would have plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day These are delicious and they were so enjoyed by all of us. My wife added these to our rotation and we are all happy about that!

Oh yummy! I think using full sausage meat really contributes to these tasty meatballs. I wound up adding chopped garlic to the meatballs, because I had some in the fridge left from another meal, and also added extra parsley and basil than what the recipe called for. These meatballs were great on their own as well as in sub/hoagie/hero rolls. Thank you ellie for sharing. Made it for Billboard Tag Game.
