Step by Step Method

Step 1

Place the buttermilk and water into the bread pan. Top with the whole wheat flour, white bread flour, baking soda, honey, oil and salt. Place the yeast on top of the mixture (if your machine has a delay timer before kneading starts then place the salt into the corner of the pan away from the yeast).

Step 2

Press manual or dough cycle to knead dough. When the cycle is finished remove from bread maker. Shape into one large long loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan. Let rise until doubled in size. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 25 minutes, or until bottom of loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

I had some buttermilk needing to be used, the photo for Honey Wheat Bread caught my attention and decided it was a must make. Added the ingredients per my bread maker instructions and had the same wonderful results as one of your previous reviewers, a fine crumb, a lovely taste and a beautiful loaf of bread. The aroma alone gets you a five! I can't wait to toast a couple of slices for tomorrow's breakfast.

I made this recipe on 9/6/12 for the " Billboard Recipe Tag " game. There is a bit of confusion in this recipe. In the list of ingredients it says bread flour, but in the directions, it reads all-purpose flour. So I went with the bread flour.I did change the way the ingredients were added,I added the honey along with the water and buttermilk. Then the two flours were added and made three separate little "wells" and placed the baking soda, yeast, and salt in the "wells". It rose beautifully in the machine, then the dough was placed in the oven. It rose very nicely in the pan,but somewhere between the second rising and baking it fell. I don't know if it was because of the way I added the ingredients or not.I would like to make a suggestion if I may.? Since this has buttermilk in the recipe, I would strongly suggest NOT using the delay feature on the machine. It could cause a problem. I did eat a couple of pieces and the taste was very good. Thanks for posting and " Keep Smiling :) "

Lovely bread! It has a nice fine crumb and the wonderful aroma of wheat and honey. I added some flax meal and flax seeds. I made this by hand as I am not good at using a bread machine. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe that I will be using again!
