Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium skillet add 1 teaspoon of bacon drippings and fry onions until golden brown.

Step 2

Place bread slices in a large bowl and add milk. Set aside until most or all of the milk is absorbed by the bread.

Step 3

To the bread add the fried onions, egg, beef, pork, salt and pepper. Work together with clean hands until everything is well combined.

Step 4

Put bread crumbs on plate. Form 8 hamburger patties and roll in the bread crumbs. Heat the remaining bacon drippings in the skillet the onions were fried in. Place patties in the skillet and brown. Put browned patties in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.

Delicious! These are very similar to the German hamburgers I make...I served them with noodles and green beans...I have plenty left so for lunch they will be served on a bun...Made for "Pick Me" tag game...

Just loved these burgers!! I made this as written with the exception of using all ground beef and had to sub panko bread crumbs as I was out of the regular. I will definitely be making these again. Loved the flavor from the bacon grease and onions and the meat mixture was so moist from the added bread/milk. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!!

Made these for your win in football tag! Congratulations!! Very moist and tasty burgers! I made these as directed, and they turned out delicious. But I can't help but wonder what they would taste like just cooked on top of the stove so the breadcrumbs stay crunchy! May try that next time. Usually do burgers on the grill, and this was a very pleasant change. Very moist!! Thanks for sharing!

Made these for DH and my brother and they both gobbled up two each. They both commented on how they liked the bacony taste of these burgers. I used onion salt in place of regular salt to give it a more onion flavor. Great polish recipe Lor!!!!
