Step by Step Method

Step 1

Remove crust from each slice of bread. Using a rolling pin, lightly flatten out each slice.

Step 2

Place about 1-2 teaspoons of chosen fillings on the outer edge of the bread in a strip. Roll up each bread slice jelly roll-style. Repeat with each bread slice.

Step 3

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In a separate bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon, then transfer to a plate.

Step 4

Melt some butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Dip each bread roll in the egg mixture, coating well. Place seam-side down in the skillet and cook all sides for about 2 minutes per side until golden brown. Add butter to the pan as needed.

  • Choose a soft-crusted bread for the best results.
  • You can use any combination of fillings to create different flavor combinations.

  • Substitute almond butter for Nutella hazelnut spread - Almond butter is a healthier alternative to Nutella as it is lower in sugar and higher in protein. It also has a milder flavor, which will allow the sweetness of the strawberries to stand out more.
  • Substitute coconut sugar for granulated sugar - Coconut sugar is a more natural sweetener, with fewer calories and a lower glycemic index than traditional granulated sugar. It also has a subtle caramel-like flavor that will add an extra layer of flavor to the French Toast Rollups.

Chocolate Chip French Toast Rollups Replace the Nutella and strawberries with 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips. Roll up each bread slice as instructed and cook as directed. Instead of coating in cinnamon sugar, coat each roll in powdered sugar.

Bacon and Eggs - This classic combination of eggs and bacon is the perfect complement to the sweet and savory French Toast Rollups. The salty bacon and creamy eggs will balance the sweetness of the rollups and provide a hearty breakfast that will fill you up and keep you going all day!

Fruit Salad: A light and refreshing fruit salad is the perfect accompaniment to the French Toast Rollups. The sweetness of the fruit will contrast nicely with the savory bacon and eggs, and the variety of colors and textures will make for a beautiful and delicious presentation.
