Chinese Beef Short Ribs (Slow Cooker)

"These short ribs are out-of-this-world. If you don't have a slow cooker it can be cooked in the oven at 350 degrees for less time. Serve the leftover sauce with rice"

Very good short ribs which we enjoyed with rice and broccoli. I forgot the parsley and sesame seeds but otherwise made as directed. Thanks for sharing!.

  • 5 pounds bone-in beef short ribs
  • Pepper
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 to 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • Sesame seeds

Step 1

Season the short ribs with pepper. Brown the ribs in hot oil, then transfer to slowcooker.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil and red pepper flakes, Pour over the browned ribs in slow cooker.

Step 3

Cover and cook on low heat for 7-8 hours or high heat for 3-4 hours.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and 1/4 cup water. Stir in mixture into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on high heat for an additional 30 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

Step 5

Serve with cooked rice. Garnish with sesame seeds.

I loved this recipe and give it top marks. The ribs were so tender you could cut them with a fork. I used the European Style short ribs. They are cut long ways about 1" wide. I will sure make this again. It is so easy to prepare. Into the crock pot and they mind themselves!
