Step by Step Method

Step 1

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare pastry.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, stir together the cherries and sugar; add the cornstarch and mix well.

Step 3

Turn cherry pie filling mixture into a pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle with almond extract and dot with butter. Cover with top crust; seal and flute edges. Cut slits in the top crust. Cover edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent over browning. Remove the foil strips 10-15 minutes of baking.

Step 4

Bake 60 minutes or until crust is golden brown and juice bubbles through slits. Remove from oven. Cool.

Note: prep time does not include pitting of cherries or making pie crust.
