"I started making this 30+ years ago for the DH - from a Nestles condensed milk can, the DH prefers it without the chocolate topping so I have omitted it, never done it. Though it is sometime since I last made it, it is one of those recipes I do every now and then as he is the only one that eats it and well I hate waste but more often that not there is waste. Since I posted this recipe the condensed milk in the cans has gone from 400 grams to 395 grams - so have changed the recipe to reflect that/"

Step by Step Method
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180C/160Cfan forced/350°F.
Step 2
Line a slice tray with some baking/parchment paper (scrunch up the paper before putting it into slice tray (I use a 27cm x 18cm approximately 10 1/2" x 7"), making sure it hangs out on the long side to become a handle for removing.
Step 3
For base - Mix all ingredients together and then press firmly into a tray (I use one 27cm x 18cm - approximately 10 1/2" x 7").
Step 4
Bake for 10 to 15 minutes (should have a slight golden colour and still soft to the touch) and then let cool while making the filling.
Step 5
Filling - Put all ingredients into a small saucepan and cook over low heat till butter melted and well combined and takes on a golden colour (about 3 to 5 minutes).
Step 6
Pour over biscuit base and return to the oven for about 10 minutes.
Step 7
Let cool completely before cutting.
