Step by Step Method
Step 1
Beat together shortening, brown sugar then add the egg and applesauce to mix, so that all the wet ingredients are combined.
Step 2
Sift flour, spices, salt, and baking soda together before adding to the wet ingredients, mix until just combined.
Step 3
Fold in raisins and nuts if desired.
Step 4
Drop by tablespoons full onto ungreased cookie sheets and bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
