Step by Step Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

FOR THE CRUST


Step 2

In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 1/2 tablespoons white sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening until the mixture is crumbly. Whisk together egg yolks and water, then mix into flour until the dough forms into a ball. Roll out to fit the bottom of a 10 x 15 inch pan. Transfer crust to the pan and evenly press into the bottom.

FOR THE FILLING


Step 3

In a large bowl, combine apples, lemon juice, 2 tablespoons flour, 2 cups white sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour filling into prepared crust and dot with 2 tablespoons butter.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, brown sugar, and 2/3 cup butter. Cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly, then sprinkle over the apples.

Step 5

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until topping is golden brown.

There are 5 of us in the family now, and we love our sweets, so I thought we might be able to get our fill by making something bigger than an apple pie. This is delicious as is, or with the addition of Cool Whip or your favorite ice cream. We instantly fell in love!
