FRITTERS

Step 1

Pour oil into a medium saucepan until one-third full.

Step 2

Heat over medium high heat until hot.

Step 3

Combine the flours and sugar with enough ice cold water to make a batter the consistency of thickened (doubled) cream.

Step 4

Coat the sliced apples in the batter and deep fry in batches for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden, remove to a wire rack to drain.

CINNAMON SUGAR

Step 5

Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

CARAMEL SAUCE

Step 6

Combine the butter and sugar in a small saucepan, place over medium heat and cook 3 - 4 minutes or until sugar is dissolved, stir in the cream and simmer for 2 - 3 minutes until sauce thickens.

Step 7

Place the fitters on serving plates, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar, pour over caramel sauce and enjoy.

I used Macintosh apples to make these and they were just sweet enough for us. We loved these fritters and the sauce was awesome drizzled over the top. Never hurts to add some ice cream on the side either!

My sister and I LOVED these babies! We had Vanilla ice cream on top then poured the sauce over the ice cream. Heaven in a dish!

We had these today for dessert, though they are also great as a breakfast item. The batter was enough for 3 apples. 2 of those apples were over-ripe and a bit wrinkly and I found that they produced a better result than the fresher apple. I will make sure my apples are a little over-the-hill when I make these fritters next time. They were thoroughly enjoyed by my family and I. The kids especially loved the caramel sauce. Thank you I'm Pat for a keeper.
