"This cake is best eaten warm with either icecream or my favourite warm custard and is reasonably quick to put together. Please note the batter will be thick which makes it one of those cakes that needs to be eaten the same day and preferably warm."

Thoroughly enjoyed the flavor of this cake, and I appreciated that it used standard pantry ingredients. The batter was very thick and I'm not a great baker, so I didn't know how to fix it. I read the other reviewer's notes that she added the extra milk, so I did that -- and it was still thick. I pressed the batter into bottom of my pie dish using non-stick spray and parchment paper (it was REALLY sticky). The resulting cake was FABULOUS. The crumb had the texture of coffee cake and the apple topping was decadent. I had to cook mine for 5 minutes longer than directed, but that could be because I added extra liquid to the batter. I'm really glad I made this! Was perfect with a hot cup of tea. Thanks for sharing!

The hubby and I enjoyed this for breakfast...I cut the recipe in half using my small pie plate...the cake batter was like a thick paste so I added in about 2 tsp more milk...the cake is on the dry side so you really do need something to moisten it...I served it with whipped cream...the overall cake is very delicious...I like that it was quick to prepare...made for "For Your Consideration" tag game...
