Gestational Diabetes
During my last 2 pregnancies I developed Gestational Diabetes . There was a forum on zaar that really helped me get through it . Now the forums are all gone so I can't refer to it and I have just discovered that I'm pregnant * surprise* lol .
I was hoping you wonderful people could help me gather recipes that are low carb and low sugar . My trouble meals are breakfast and lunch .
Thank you so much for your help <3

Re: Gestational Diabetes
Here`s lots of low carb and no-sugar recipes that you can choose from. Hope this helps you out.
Cheesy egg omelettes makes a great high protein, low-card and low sugar breakfast and lunch, add in some low-glycemic veggies to add flavor ;)
Congratulations on your third pregnancy! Good luck

There is a search feature on advanced search and it allows you to pick low carb or low sugar.
It's best if you eat fruit, vegetables, milk and yogurts as part of a mixed meal. Your body will then absorb the sugars in the juice or dairy food more slowly. That's because the sugars are mixed with other food elements, such as fiber and protein. (same with diabetics).
Avoid foods with a high glycemic level, such as pasta, bread, and rice. You can have these of course, just limit them. Peanut butter is good because its high protein mixed with some sugars for example. But watch out for regular jelly, use sugar free jelly if you want a sandwich made with peanut butter. Baked beans is good is another thing that is good, high protein mixed with sugars. Your body processes it different because both contain fiber and protein. Use fruit and veggies as snacks, strawberries are great because they are low carb, watch out for carrots as they are high sugar. Same as bananas, all sugar. They are good, but eat sparingly. It is sort of like the no white diet. No white bread, flour, sugar. Of course when I say NO, I mean limited. If you want spaghetti, just watch the amount of pasta you eat, or use wheat pasta, it has more fiber. Easier to keep the blood sugar down. I wish you luck! You can do it easily if you try!

Try my Egg and Potato Frittata, minus the potato http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/savory ... tata-14564. It's great for breakfast or brunch.

Had you heard they had been sued for false claims? I got an email to be part of the class action settlement but didn't have any receipts.Dissie wrote:I forgot to mention, dreamfields pastas. They are great. My walmart carries them. Lots of groceries do, but not all.

You really should be visiting a dietician as part of your prenatal care. There are things specific to pregnancy overall, like the fish issue, that just low carb guidelines don't address.
Eat lots of leafy greens, fresh fruit, legumes and beans I'd say.
And don't eat junk food.
I am also a big advocate of the prenatal blend of vitamin tablet. There is one called ferrosequels. Ask your OB about it.

Re: Gestational Diabetes
I have a 30 and 28 year old and both were gestational diabetic babies and I now I am an insulin dependant diabetic. The only advice I would give, is consult a dietician. I had complications during my pregnancies other than just gestational diabetes which caused other problems and made dietary issues a nightmare for me hence my stopping at 2 as DH and I originally were planning of 4 but my specialists wouldn't guarantee I would survive a 3rd. A lot of this was not sorted out in my first pregnancies until I landed in hospital at 28 weeks and spent over 12 weeks there and with the help of the dieticians got things under better control but even then because of the other complications there were a lot of issues.
You have your last two pregnancies to give you a guideline as to what will work for you. As a diabetic in general I would suggest low carbohydrate and low gi (I personally do not advocate cutting out carbohydrates completely) but try to keep to fresh as much as possible the less processed the better for you and the bubs. Congratulations on your third and please let us know how it progresses.
