Ol' Fashioned Stewed Rhubarb
Post
by Bergy » Thu Apr 16, 2015 8:09 pm
I always looked forward to that first Spring treat - stewed rhubarb. But the rhubarb continued togrow & grow and stewed as a favorite went out the window. But there were so many other ways to enjoy it - Even just over ice cream, with strawberries, as a pie etc etc etc. Simple recipe just posted

Mmmmm, I can't wait for the rhubarb to start coming up. DH just loves the stuff, there is never any left for me to can or freeze. I am thinking of getting a few more plants!

Thanks Bea. We had one plant that was an 20 year survivor and finally had to get rid of it. Even the neighbours were complaining having the after dark secret gifts left on their doorsteps. It was almost like having zucchini over abundence. The neighbours were geting very suspicious and we felt it was time to close down the rhubarb gifts or move. We sacrificed the plant - it is no more

We grew rhubarb up north every year. Not in FL; but, I do get it now and then at the market. Love it. What a nice simple recipe.
I loved it warm over vanilla ice cream. Or raw, dipped in sugar.

My rhubarb just sprouted! I was so happy to see it come in. I transplanted it from Mom's farm last fall, and hoped it would come up! I will try this in a few weeks!

Thanks for the comments Dissie. Those rhubarb plants really become heirloom plants. Glad yours made it
